Jockey Hollow Reproduction Soldier's Huts

When soldiers arrived in Jockey Hollow, General Washington ordered that huts be built for the enlisted men. The total construction of these huts lasted three to seven weeks. The huts were initially constructed for soldiers during their winter encampment. It was during the coldest winters in more than 100 years and the conditions were so severe, soldiers regularly stole just to eat, deserted or mutinied. Today, replica huts stand where these once unlivable conditions stood. They are open from dawn to dusk daily.

The Wick House

The Wick family was one of the most prosperous families of their time. They lived in a comfortable home that included a house and farm that were both well constructed. The home was adjacent to their farm that grew a variety of different crops, including wheat, corn, rye, oats, buckwheat, apples and flax. The home became a winter headquarters for General Arthur St. Clair. It was also used by the Continental Army for one year during the American Revolution. Visit the home and farm daily between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
